Odd M. Strindmo is a resident of Melhus, Norway who discovered the 46th Mersenne prime (chronologically 47th), 242,643,801-1. Strindmo goes by the alias Stig M. Valstad on GIMPS.

At the time of discovery, Strindmo was an IT professional whose computers had been contributing to GIMPS since 1996 testing over 1400 candidates.

Strindmo's 3 GHz Core 2 Duo PC first reported the prime to GIMPS on 2009-04-12. However, due to a server bug, none of the search organizers were notified until GIMPS forum member "Lycorn" spotted it in the Top Producers list. The prime was formally announced two months later, on 2009-06-12.
